Our hair plays a vital role in maintaining our style and appearance. Several factors affect our hair including hormonal changes, genetics, sun exposure, scalp infections, radiation therapy, surgeries, excessive hair styling, poor diet, tumors, and stress. When a person starts losing hair from the front or back of his/her head then the person is known to have a receding hairline. Usually receding hairline may develop just after puberty or anytime during adulthood.

Symptoms:

Some of the noticeable symptoms of the receding hairline are the loss of hair on the top or at the back of the head, outright balding on the top uneven thickness of hair, an “M” shape appears at the hairline for men when receding occurs and similarly “V” shape appears at the hairline for women.

Causes of receding hairline:

1.Hereditary Trait

One of the causes of receding hairline is family history. Because of this in some cases, your hair follicles become sensitive and weak mostly at the front of your head. Around 95% of men face this issue in comparison to women. You cannot reverse the changes caused by your family history but treatment and seeing a doctor can help.

  1. Stress

Telogen effluvium is caused by stress or illness which is a major cause of receding hairline but one thing about this is that the changes can be reversed if we start taking care of our mental health.

  1. Medications

Medicines are used to cure several diseases but we forget that few of them have serious side effects. Not only medication affects hair but different treatments like chemotherapy also causes a receding hairline.

  1. Age

With age there are several changes in the body, the rate of hair growth slows down and in men, almost 70% of them face receding hairline and this begins just above the temples.

  1. Hormonal Changes

Due to hormonal changes in women, testosterone is changed to DHT (dihydrotestosterone). DHT inactivates hair follicles which makes our hair sensitive and causes hair loss because there is a fall in estrogen levels after menopause. Pregnancy, an underactive thyroid, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) also cause hormonal changes. So one solution to hormonal changes is caffeine hair products.

  1. Hairstyles

Different kinds of hairstyles like buns, braids, ponytails, and cornrows pull your hair tight this weakens the follicles. You must also be careful to avoid chemical treatment drugs that cause hair loss, hot rollers, curling irons, hot oil treatments, using a common comb, and constant pulling of hair.

Treatment

1.Hair Transplant

A transplant has nowadays become a general solution even if this process is costly, but many people consider this as a long-term solution to cure the problem of receding hairline. In this process, the hairs from the thicker spots are moved to the front of the head. Laser treatment is also an effective but expensive way of hair treatment.

  1. Essential oils

Peppermint and tea tree oil are some of the best hair oils to cure hair loss or problems related to receding hairline. These oils also help to get rid of mice and cure dandruff.
